It’s Valentine’s week and most of us are thinking about romantic love.
Let’s just get one thing straight first…whether you’re in a relationship, looking for love or happily flying solo, meaningfully filling your love tank is only possible when you focus on loving YOURSELF first! Let us repeat, LOVE YOURSELF FIRST!
So what does that really mean, love myself first?
Simple, it’s the foundation of what your love tank is made of. It’s knowing exactly what love looks like to you and doing the work to create space in your heart, spirit and life to call that type of love in. And guess what…we’re here to help jumpstart that process in your life.
No matter what your relationship status is, here’s a self love exercise below that will help you take the time you need to gift yourself more LOVE.
Whip out your journal or a fresh notebook or iPad Note.
Take a moment to think about all the amazing sum of parts that make you, you!
Now, write a list of all those things you love about yourself. Be generous NOT critical. This is a love list not a judgement list.
List every curve, unique freckle, wit, every one of your awesome skillsets, creativity, etc. If you love it or like even one teeny tiny bit of it put it on the list!
Take a look at your love list. As you go through the list notice if you feel any sensation or doubt surface in your body or minds eye, i.e. a pause or a butterfly in the stomach. Do not judge them, just simply take notice and write those emotions or sensations down in your journal at the moment they happen. It could be as you’re recalling the item on the list or as it surfaces in real time.
NEXT – Ask yourself, “Where do I feel the sensation of love most inside my body?”
Try to locate where the sensation of love lives and clearly identify it. Is it deeply in your spirit and heart or does it generate in the foremost process of your thoughts?
Does your body tingle in places as you become to present to these thoughts?
Patiently get present to where love lives in your body. Use this physical body feeling as a tuning fork. Keep coming back to this sensation as a way to get touch with the feeling of being deeply loved.
Yes, WE KNOW!!! More of that please! This feeling and being present to those sensations is what you want to create more of in your life!
NOW…Take a pen and paper & finish these statements:
I sense ________________________________________________ right now after this exercise.
I need _____________________________________________________________________ in my life.
I deserve __________________________________________________________________ in my life.
I imagine __________________________________________________________________ in my life.
I want ______________________________________________________________________ in my life.
I will no longer accept _____________________________________________________ in my life.
I feel _______________________________________ as I completed the steps of this exercise.
